Our solid raised panel shutters are made in cedar and should last longer than you will!
The Victorians, who knew a thing or two about solid shutters, generally used cedar or pine. The pine solid shutters they made will, by now, have largely rotted and we do quite a lot of replacement work for these. We can also replace the panelling found below the window shutters, as these are really just shutter panels fixed to the wall.
We fit many solid shutters to homes where road noise or security is an issue. The Victorians fitted solid shutters for security, among other reasons. When they went off for the season and given that the glass was very thin in those days, birds could fly into the windows and their interiors would be damaged, so the solid shutters were only pulled across a couple of times a year. We design differently. Our solid shutters can be used daily but we generally don't pull them back into reveal boxes.

Shutters are designed to suit your use requirements and the openings themselves. We don't expect you to be an expert shutter designer so we can guide you through what will work for you and look great.

Tier on Tier is ideal on taller sash windows, giving the option of opening the top section for full daylight and keeping the bottom closed for street level privacy. However they do not really work on windows less than about 120CM high.
Full height shutters look very elegant, especially with mid rails if on sash windows, so if the benefits of the tier on tier do not entice you enough, full height can look better.
Cafe Style Shutters suit those who would like to keep the soft fabric look of their curtains, but be warned, more than half of our Cafe style shutter customers upgrade to tier on tier. This is an expensive way to do it...
Tracking is sometimes the only way to cover wide openings, we have managed shutters across openings as wide as 12 metres.
