Ark has been operating in its current form since January 2006 but principal Lee Battersby has been practising as an architect from the current office since 1991. Prior to forming the Ark Partnership in 1991 Lee was an architect with Broadway & Malyan and an associate and director at Sutton Griffin & Morgan.

The Ark partnership merged briefly with Compton Lacey in 2001 before reverting to a single practice in December 2005. Deborah Wakley, the other principal architect in the practice joined in 2002 and co-ordinates the production and technical side of the practice.

Projects running within the office are geared to provide the ll staff with their own projects, also to try and involve everyone with each and every job that the practice is responsible for. This not only ensures variety but enables a wider understanding of day to day problems and how these can be resolved.

Private Residential
This substantial domestic property, extended during both the Edwardian and Victorian periods was gutted internally to leave only major structural elements and minimal features. Complete replacement of some external construction and upgrading of other existing structural elements enabled the project to be brought up to date in terms of construction, allowing modern performance standards to be achieved whilst also incorporating new technology including intelligent lighting systems, under-floor heating, central audio-visual, data, vacuum and security systems.


Hotel Leisure
Following a £14 million re-development, that hard work was rewarded when the privately owned 4-star hotel was recently awarded AA hotel of the year 2007/08. Phased work at the hotel was carefully co-ordinated to ensure that the hotel could continue to operate during all the phases.
